Mason County is located on the southwestern end of Hood Canal and Puget Sound and extends into the Olympic National Forest and the Olympic National Park. The Olympic National Forest is home to the Olympic Mountain range which can been seen throughout Mason County. US Highway 101 travels north and south along Puget Sound and Hood Canal. Highway 101 easily connects to Interstate 5 making the entire I-5 corridor easily accessible. Shelton, the county seat, is approximately 85 miles southwest of Seattle, and is approximately 65 miles southwest of Sea-Tac International Airport. Olympia is only 20 miles southeast of Shelton, and Bremerton is 36 miles northeast. Portland sits 130 miles south on the I-5 corridor.
