Gold Bar: Gateway to the Cascades

A former prospector's camp, Gold Bar (pop. about 2000) is a logging headquarters which also serves the needs of small farms in the region.

During construction of the Great Northern Railroad, anti-Chinese sentiment in this area ran so strong among some camp agitators that Chinese laborers were forced to flee the camp hidden in hastily built coffins. The town lies on the Skykomish River and is connected to Monroe, Startup and other Snohomish County towns to the west by Highway 2.
